Adobe Audition 1.5 I have used all three and I don't think that Audition will be of any use to you. Cubase (if you're speaking of SX 2 or 3) is a prettly nice app.

Extracting Audio from CDs
One way to bring audio into Audition is to import it from your existing CD collection. You can either digitally extract, or rip, audio directly from a CD, or you can record the audio within Audition itself.
Whenever possible, you should rip rather than record from a CD. Ripping uses digital-to-digital data transfer and thus guarantees higher audio quality and fidelity.
Also keep in mind that not all drives or drive configurations support analog audio recording (which is essentially what you're doing if you record from within Audition). If you have an internal drive, you must have the Audio Out cable connected to the drive to support analog recording. If your source drive is external, analog recording is not an option. But that's no big deal, because, again, ripping works better, and the process is much faster.

Audition provides two ways to rip audio from a CD. You can use the File > Open command for a quick and easy rip, or you can use the File > Extract Audio from CD option if you want more control over the process.
To extract CD tracks using the Open command
- Insert your CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive.
- Choose Edit view and select File > Open (Figure 3.24).
Figure 3.24 You can use File > Open to extract a track from an audio CD.
- Select CD Digital Audio (*.cda) as the file type to display and browse to the CD-ROM drive (Figure 3.25).
Figure 3.25 Navigate to your CD-ROM (or CD-RW or DVD) drive in the Look In drop-down menu and select the tracks you want to extract in the window below.
- Select the tracks you want to extract and click the Open button. The track is extracted.
To extract CD tracks using the Extract Audio from CD command:
- Insert your CD into your PC's CD-ROM drive.
- In either Edit view or CD Project view, choose File > Extract Audio from CD (Figure 3.26). The Extract Audio from CD window (Figure 3.27) appears.
Figure 3.26 For more advanced configuration options, use the File > Extract Audio from CD method.
- In the Device drop-down menu, select the CD-ROM drive containing your CD.
- In the Source Selection area, select either Track or Time. Select Track if you want to select one or more complete audio tracks to extract. Select Time if you want to select part of a track or a large block of audio that spans more than one track. The Time option can be handy when you're dealing with live CDs or when you want to extract more than one track to a single audio file.
- Select a setting in the Interface Options area. In most cases, you'll want to use the ASPI/SPTI setting. Adobe recommends that the Generic Win32 setting (which uses input/output control codes instead of SCSI commands) be used only when the ASPI/SPTI setting causes a problem.
- Select an Error Correction setting if appropriate. If your CD-ROM drive has built-in error correction, only the CDDA Accurate setting will be available. Otherwise, you will be able to change the setting to No Correction or Jitter Correction. Most modern drives perform well with the CDDA Accurate setting.
- Click OK to extract the track.
Integrate Adobe Audition into your post production workflow! Utilize Auditionâs powerful tools for fixing common audio problems like background noise, hum, clipping, clicks and pops.
Adobe Audition can quickly clean up audio and fix problems that Premiere Pro cannot. In this post we cover common audio problems that you may encounter in your video editing and post production â and how to address these issues using the tools within Adobe Audition.

Noise Reduction in Audition
Adobe Audition has powerful noise reduction tools that be accessed in the Waveform Editor. If you are in a Multitrack Session, double click on a track to go into the Waveform Editor.
Click and drag to select several seconds of background/ambient only sound. The more time you have to sample the better your results will be. Make sure you do not select any audio with voices or other noises!
Go to Effects > Noise Reduction (process). Click âCapture Noise Printâ and then âSelect Entire Fileâ.
Click âNoise Onlyâ to hear what you are removing (deselect it before you click apply). Click the green button on & off to toggle the effect as you adjust the âNoise Reductionâ & âReduce byâ sliders.
If you prefer shortcuts, use Shift +P to save a noise print and CMD/CNTRL/Shift + P to open the âNoise Reductionâ Effect. I suggest making shortcuts for effects you commonly use (do this by accessing the shortcut editor in the menu bar, Edit >Keyboard Shortcuts).
Adaptive Noise Reduction
Adaptive Noise Reduction automatically learns what noise is, as long as you have background noise before people start speaking. To take advantage of this tool, it is a good habit to always record 4-5 seconds of audio before your talent starts speaking.
In Adobe Audition, you can also combine Adaptive Noise Redution with other effects in the Effects Rack (which you canât do with standard Noise Reduction). It is part of several presets like âClean up and Level Voice-Overâ that can help you get started if you are new to audio effects.
Remove Hum in Audition
This Adobe Audition effect comes in handy if you are doing a lot of location filming where you canât control the production environment.
Use this to remove AC hum (lights, power lines, electronics). In my example I was picking up hum from an Xbox 360 in the room.
Go to Effects > Noise Reduction/Restoration > Dehummer. Select your preset based on country. Iâm in the states so I picked 60Hz.
Auto Heal & Spot Healing
You can use Auto Heal & the Spot Healing Brush to remove clicks, pops, and other short noises you want to remove from your audio.
Zoom in by pressing the plus key and select the pop. Right click and select âAuto Healâ (Comm/Control + U).
You can also paint a selection with the spot healing brush(B) by dragging over the area to fix in the âSpectral Frequencyâ display.
Using the Diagnostic Panel

Access the Diagnostics panel in Audition by choosing Window > Diagnostics from the menu bar. The powerful diagnostic panel provides tools to fix clipping, clicks and pops in your audio.
The Declipper is handy for repairing clipped audio. Select the DeClipper Effect in the Diagnostic panel. Click Scan and your clipping areas will be listed. Select a listed problem to move to it in the waveform.
Adobe Audition 1.5 Not Recording Software
You can fix each one at a time or click Repair All.
Note: Depending on your audio it may still appear clipped, as Audition works in 32 bit floating point. Decrease the amplitude or use Normalize to see that the audio isnât actually clipped. I have had varied results with the DeClicker, so if it dozenât fix your issues, you the manual method mentioned above using Auto Heal & Spot Healing Brush.
