Nintendo Sales By Country
Nintendo is marking today's Indie World Showcase, which was finally confirmed yesterday, by launching a new indie game sale. This sale continues the company's push to celebrate indie games and creators on the Nintendo Switch's Eshop.
Historically, Nintendo consoles are known primarily for their first-party games, such as The Legend of Zelda, Mario, and Metroid, while lacking AAA third-party games. However, since the Switch launch, Nintendo has found success filling the gaps in its library with indie games, and a lot of gamers use their console to play new indie games.

Nintendo announced the Indie World Sale at the end of today's Indie World Showcase and revealed that it would begin later today. It looks like the sale has already begun at the time of writing, and it will run until April 25th, 2021. The Indie World Sale features some of 2020's best indie games as well as games revealed in today's showcase, like 2012's classic indie game, Fez.
Since 2019, Nintendo has hosted these small Indie World Showcase events to highlight new indie games coming to the console, and it is good for the game industry to see indie games being supported. At the end of 2020, Nintendo released a video celebrating the success of indie games on Switch, like Supergaint's Hades, which was considered by many to one of 2020's best games. By supporting indie games like this, Nintendo attracts more indie developers and builds a community of fans who are more open to trying indie games.
In 2021, indie games will continue to be an important part of the industry as the pandemic effects begin to show. While 2020 saw a huge uptake in interest in video games due to more people spending time at home, many AAA projects also were affected by the pandemic. While most major games still made their release dates, projects that were in development will most likely see delays into 2022 and beyond. However, indie developers tend to consist of much smaller teams and were better able to adapt to the pandemic's effects. Even indie developers that were affected still hold an advantage over larger teams because indie games typically have a shorter production timeline.
Indie games are vital to the game industry's success, and it is great to see these smaller developers and projects being given a platform by Nintendo. Indie games could potentially be the backbone of gaming in 2021 and make sure that gamers have something to play while AAA games are catching up.
