Qmmp is a modern audio player that allows you to listen to music inside a good looking environment, providing support for the most common audio formats on the software market.
If you’re familiar with Winamp, but want a simpler approach to audio playback, then Qmmp makes the perfect choice. With an interface similar to Winamp, but a less crowded feature set, the program provides all that is necessary for a very comfortable media experience.
Aside from impressing through an intuitive and user-friendly appearance, Qmmp also manages to attract through a rich set of abilities that are comprehensive and easy to work with.
Playback controls include the basics, namely play, stop, next, previous, shuffle and repeat, with volume and balance adjustments. Just underneath the playback area, there’s an equalizer that allows you to save or load various presets (including from Winamp).
The playlist can be populated by using the dedicated dialog that allows you to load individual files or an entire folder. The list of supported input formats includes MP3, WAV, OGG, APE, OGA, FLAC, WMA, TTA, MPC, OPUS, SND, AIFF and SPH, to name the most important ones.
As far as preferences are concerned, you can navigate to the Settings window when you want to tweak the appearance of the software (via the embedded collection of skins) or to configure keyboard shortcuts for the playback process.
In addition, you can enable or disable various audio plugins, opt for a proxy server and customize parameters such as replay gain and buffer size.
All in all, Qmmp comes across as a user-oriented audio player that sports a sufficient feature set for the average user. It brings a little bit of Winamp’s look and feel, but it’s simpler in functionality than Nullsoft’s audio player.

These are Winamp skins, in WinampClassic skin format.
I made them for Winamp in late 2005, and I used them happily in Winamp foryears. I've been using them with XMMS under Unix for about the past decade.
I've tested them successfully a bit in Audacious, gxmms2,... andeven a bit qmmp, and basically no problem. I've tested them even atiny tiny bit in promoe, but no promises there.
The way to install these skins... depends on the program. Look inthe Preferences screen in your program.
Renaming from .zip to .wsz might be helpful/necessary.
Let me know if you have any trouble with these.

Winamp/XMMS/etc skin: 'Commodore 64'
[Download Commodore_64.zip, 14,802 bytes]
Screenshot:
Yup, it's meant to look like a Commodore 64 boot screen. The text'XMMS' in the title bar is 'hardwired' into the skin, so if you'reusing this under Winamp and you toggle to this, you'll have thecognitive dissonance of something saying 'XMMS' and looking like aCommodore 64, without being either.
If that seems absurd, look at the playlist in thescreenshot and take a hint and crank up Fluke's 'Absurd'!
You're welcome!
Legal note: Having the 'C=' logo thereis meant for comedic effect, not to mislead anyone into thinking thatthis has any relationship to actual Commodore products-- as there isnone.
Winamp/XMMS/etc skin: 'Old_X-timey - a skin in the style of some horrible monochrome past'

This is meant to look like something that runs under 1980s X Windows

This isn't meant for normal use. I made it for reference in makingnew skins-- each color panel is the extent of a given component, solooking at the boundaries between them means you know how to 'colorwithin the lines' for new skins. I think I've got this wholething right, but don't take it as authoritative by any means!
